I got to the Beez Kneez Bakpakers (Whitehorse, YT) by a sunny fall Friday to spend a night, warm my tired heart, finally enjoy a hot meal and break with my endless kilometers. Instead, I spent three days, celebrate my first Canadian Thanksgiving and found an Irish travel companion for the rest of my driven explorations to Jasper…
I was barely introduced that Sara, the manager of the place, immediately invited me to stay as long as I wished in this friendly atmosphere, I was even welcome to share a Thanksgiving meal the next day. In one second, I was spellbound! I snuggled in this warmth ambiance and observed people who shape the place.
Dona, the Queen Beez, the owner of the place, goes with the wind like an exuberant bubble of joy. There is always a laugh hanging to her her big smile, there is always a sparkle in her eyes where her next fantasy awaits. For Thanksgiving night, she started a cheerful whipped cream contest… Who between her and Sara? What between the electrical and the manual mixer? I won’t say, I am biased since my elbow grease helped with love to lose! I can tell I was there!
Sara, the Best Beez Worker, the hidden mum, softly introduced her protecting energy in this peaceful honeycomb. She takes care of everybody, she quietly shines each corner with her nourishing and calm honey. She always has an epic story to share with her guest to enlight the night. She always has a piece of her heart to open to the one she will take under her beez’ wings.
Sara’s companion – whose I am so ashamed to have forgotten the name – is there when his heart feels inclined, when the wind blows him toward the North, when the time allows. And every time he comes back, Sara has taken a shine to some new guest she made her protégé – when I was here, it was Kevin, my future fleeting carpooler – and that she wouldn’t want to let go. They both joke about it with their sparkling smiles. Sara’s companion is the quiet strength that piggybacks, the loud and tender laugh that splashes the wall with joy. He is the wise man who drew my way from Whitehorse to Jasper, spreading his tiny and protecting advice for my wandering.
And let’s not forget the cutest puppy ever and his almost jealous big sister who both think they are super heroes for Hallowen! For somebody who doesn’t love dogs, North America found my weakness.
I therefore fully enjoyed my extended stay at the Beez Kneez where I would have lingered even more if I was not expected somewhere… My dorm with two bunk beds, including a queen one for my queen body, perfectly comforted my full moon dreams (private rooms available for those who need solitude), the efficient kitchen did its part to cook my Mac&Cheese, commons areas welcame my cyber and cursive writing, and all the equipments were available to leach my three hiking days. The whole thing for cheap rates and close the town center (but everything is close in Whitehorse!).
In three words, the place fit my most important terms to enjoy a place: clean, friendly and comfy; and I will definitely be happy to visit again.
